YCC Gala Day - 30th May 2009
Saturday 30th May saw the very first Yorkshire Cancer Centre Gala event at Roundhay Park. Visitors to the event started to arrive around 10:45 in the morning, and then throughout the day hundreds of people flocked to Roundhay Park to enjoy the fun of the Gala. The weather couldn’t have been any better, beautiful sunny clear day, and perfect for our special guests – the Red Devils Parachute display team.
The event attracted families, dog walkers, teenagers, adults young and old, and everyone seemed to be having fun, even the Lord Mayor of Leeds made a welcome visit to the event.
Popular attractions included a giant bungee trampoline and a fun fair. The entertainment throughout the day was fantastic and appreciated by all, many thanks to our display teams – “Taliwaggers”, “RAF Red Devils”, and “City of Leeds Gymnasts”. We also want to thank the live bands who played at the event for entertaining the crowds – “Stannington Brass Band”, “Styckleback” and “Roxyrama”.
A final thanks to the stall holders who took a pitch, thanks to our excellent volunteers and thanks to Leeds City Council for allowing us to use Roundhay Park.
Thousands of pounds was raised from many activities throughout the day including our own BBQ, Beer Tent, collection buckets, raffles and official YCC merchandise. Proceeds from the gala will boost the drive to raise £10m for cancer treatment at the Institute of Oncology at St James's Hospital in Leeds.
