Arts & Gardens Projects

Bexley Arts has had a good year thanks to the kind donations to the arts stream of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre. The art programme aims to enhance the environment for patients, visitors and staff.

  The Atrium Gallery

The Atrium Gallery

We have had four successful exhibitions in the atrium over the past year including the ever popular Museums display. This year it was entitled 'Green Museum' and saw numerous interesting green artefacts loaned from Leeds Museums and Galleries. The response to it was fantastic: "Who would have thought coming to hospital would be so good. Loved it and thank you for taking my mind away from hell for a little while." - Patient Comment

  Hospital Environment

Enhancements to the Hospital Environment

The atrium has been enhanced further through a very kind donation of three Joe Cornish images by the Raine family. These striking scenes of Roseberry Topping were donated in memory of Valerie Raine have been placed in the atrium by the café. There has been a wonderful response to the images with many people commenting that they are their favourite piece of art in the building.

Arts funding has also enabled the brachytherapy and endoscopy departments to have much needed artwork installed which has made both environments much more interesting and inviting for patients.

Music galore!

Since its introduction last year, the grand piano can often be heard creating a welcoming atmosphere for people coming into the hospital. Anyone who is a pianist can play and through the year many patients, staff and visitors have taken to the black and white keys to produce some beautiful tunes. The Atrium Music Programme has also continued with a wide variety of musicians contributing to make a warm and friendly ambience.
